The Ranch

Located in the beautiful Gallatin Valley in SouthWest Montana, the farm is a working ranch with variety of cattle, chickens, vegetable gardens, and natural flowing mountain water.  Our focus is on animal welfare and environmental stewardship.  We grow grasses and legumes without added irrigation, chemicals or pesticides for the animals and we focus on artisanal breeds that delicious flavor and charismatic allure.

Our History

Our cattle heritage has come full circle.  The lineage dates back 5 generations when Ed Keister purchased 100 head of cattle back in 1870 in Deer Lodge Montana.  He began the Shonkin Association which was a modern day coop of cattlemen that spanned from Fort Benton to Big Timber Montana “Trails and Tails of the Highwoods, 1964”.  Since then our family traveled to California and Florida following the construction ebb and flow of the market.  In 99’ we returned to our roots and set up the farm in Bozeman Montana.  With the initial herd of purebred highlands, we have since added other coveted breeds that produce exceptional beef and are uniquely artisanal.
